WHY WE BUILT STATSRULE

A Letter from Our Founders

To the Parents, Coaches, Grandparents, and Players:

We didn't build StatsRule from a corporate boardroom. We built it because we live this life every single weekend.

That is actually how the two of us met years ago: Kielen's son Lathan and Michael's son Jack were teammates on the same baseball team. Today, both Lathan and Jack are up-and-coming 12U players battling through weekend tournaments, double-headers, and team carpools together.

At the same time, Kielen's older son, Eliyah Powell, is one of the top-ranked high school baseball players in the country, navigating the high-stakes world of national showcases, elite travel ball, and college recruiting. And across our families, we have kids playing other sports too: basketball, volleyball, soccer.

From 12U dugouts to national high school showcases and local gymnasiums, everywhere we went, we kept running into the exact same frustrating problems: Saturday morning 30-message group chats, volunteer parents stressed out tapping iPad screens six times every pitch, and grandparents greeted by aggressive $20/month subscription paywalls just to watch their kids play.

Here is our promise to you:

  1. Free Gameday Streaming: Families should never have to pay a subscription just to watch their kids play. If your team is playing, your relatives can watch, free, simple, and in high definition.
  2. Less Screen Time, More Field Time: For coaches and scorekeepers, we built technology that gets out of the way. Score an entire game with intuitive gestures or simply by speaking out loud. Half the taps, none of the headaches.
  3. Keeping Kids in the Game: More than 70 percent of kids quit organized sports by age 13 due to burnout, toxic sideline pressure, and high costs. We focus on personal player development, celebrating growth, and fostering positive communication between coaches, parents, and athletes so sports stay fun and kids stay on the field.
  4. Total Clarity: One schedule. One platform. Instant turn-by-turn directions to the exact diamond or court, real-time weather and schedule updates, and live tournament brackets updated in real time.
  5. Supporting the Community and Cutting Family Costs: Youth sports have become painfully expensive. We connect teams and clubs directly with local businesses and community sponsors, helping programs fundraise effortlessly so families spend less out of pocket on gear, travel, and tournament dues.
  6. Protecting What Matters: Your children's data, photos, and athletic records belong to your family. We build with strict COPPA privacy safeguards and instant parental controls by default.

Welcome to StatsRule. We'll see you at the game.

Warmly,
Michael McGinnis & Kielen Powell

ENGINEERING THE BIGGER PICTURE

Michael McGinnis

Co-Founder | StatsRule

Michael McGinnis is a software engineer, security leader, and product builder with over 20 years of experience in cybersecurity, observability, and enterprise data.

Over his career, Michael has designed and operated large-scale data platforms at a series of early-stage and high-growth technology companies, and has served as a security leader for a major healthcare system. His background spans data engineering, security architecture, and the hard work of turning massive, messy raw data into something accurate and useful.

A lifelong baseball fan who has been both a coach and a parent in youth sports, Michael knows the game from the bleachers and the dugout. StatsRule grew directly out of that experience: the sense that the real story of a game was sitting in the data, waiting for someone to surface it.

As Co-Founder of StatsRule, Michael leads the technology behind the platform. He combines his engineering and security expertise to build the data architecture, scouting intelligence, and source-backed analytics that give coaches, parents, and players a clear, honest picture of performance, with every number traceable and nothing guessed.

Because StatsRule deals with families and young athletes, protecting user data is built in from the start, with privacy and security treated as core features rather than afterthoughts.

Beyond his work, Michael is a devoted husband to his beautiful wife Cheryl and a proud father of three who believes in the value of mentorship, player development, and the lasting role youth sports play in shaping the next generation.
